GIN -
Gin is a spirit which gets its flavor from juniper berries, Gin was developed on the basis of the older Jenever. The earliest known origin of Gin is the Mid Ages, although highly contested who invented Gin, the first written record of Gin was in the 13th century and the first written recipe was in the 16th century. It is also claimed that British soldiers whom provided support against the Spanish in the Eighty Years War where already drinking jenever in 1585 to help calm their nerves for battle.
Gin was distilled everywhere in the Netherlands by the middle of the 17th century, the basic ingredients used are juniper, anise, caraway, coriander, etc. Gin was widely used a medicine and sold in pharmacies. It could cure anything that ailed you, from kidneys to stomach to gallstones to gout. Gin can be found from 30% ABV to 96% ABV or 60 proof – 192 proof.
