BRANDY -
In the 15th century Brandy was created by mistake, more or less. The original thought was to distill wine to remove the water content, lower the overall volume and lower the taxation that is based on volume. Once merchants transported the brandy to its destination and the taxation process was done they could then add the water back to it just before drinking it. This did not work out to good, creating a not so pleasant product. At some point someone tried the brandy “as is” and figured out that the “new product” was better than the wine originally was… brandy was born.
Brandy was originally called brandewijn a Dutch word meaning “burned wine”. This
is because they took wine and distilled it again, concentrating it. Brandy is usually
